American Drew - Cherry Grove

Traditional

Traditional style is characterized by ornate interiors inspired by 17th or 18th-century European countryside homes.  The look is often warm and inviting, and sumptuously luxurious. These spaces usually feature furnishings and fixtures that have curved shapes and more exquisite design.  Traditional style is also recognized for its elegant fixtures, ornate woodwork, rich tones and varying patterns. Traditional style is far from minimal with plenty of shaping, tufted sofas, claw foot chairs, carved tables and lots of inlaid furniture and metallic details.  It leans toward a more feminine setting and can be more symmetric in the placement of furniture & accessories. Rich tonal patterns like paisleys, florals, damasks, and plaids are also common in traditional interior design.  Deeper wine/burgundy, navy blue, chocolate brown leathers or styles with metal nailheads are common.  Dressier and more elegant: think Crystal chandeliers, deep wood tones, luxurious stone (marble), and lots of accessories layered in like mirrors, candleholders, decorative pillows which adds sophistication and drama to any space.

Transitional

Transitional style decor blends a more sleek, contemporary vibe with traditional style. Since Transitional style leans more on the contemporary design, the look is less uptight and a bit more relaxed.  Textiles, wood tones and other decorative textures provide depth in these rooms.  A more neutral color palette is the basis for Transitional styles in a range of cream, beige and grey.

Comfortable furnishings with curved and more boxy shapes: transitional decorating style embraces soft lines and comfortable furniture, yet it does not come with the fussy styling. Broken-in leather and soft colors are perfect for a transitional room. Transitional decor is usually more organic with elegant and timeless design motifs – a blend of old and new that combines both feminine and masculine characteristics in a fresh way. Solids remain low-key in a transitional space, solids are more often featured while patterns are mostly subtle. If a bold tone is used, it’s usually repeated for consistency. Not as many “formal” rules apply; things can be symmetric but are oftentimes looser in their design in order to incorporate modern interior design trends.

Contemporary Dining

Contemporary

Contemporary design means “of the moment” or “Current.”  Contemporary design can pull from many different styles with clean-lined furniture being the most popular style.  Basic forms, clean lines, beautiful yet simple shapes and a focus on comfort all blend together in today’s contemporary home.  Upholstery fabrics are either one solid color or have subtle pattern – lots of solid colored leather work well here.  Contemporary tables have little if any ornate carvings, lots of glass, metallics, ivory, white, pale grey and polished stone. Sofas and sectionals normally have a more squared-off appearance and may be lower to the ground.  Minimal detailing on bedrooms and dining rooms or contemporary cabinets.  Look for wood doors, simple hardware, hidden hinges and clean lines.

Modern Style

Modern design belongs to a set period of time from the late 1800’s to the mid 1900’s.  Modern furniture design, which was heavily influenced by the modern art movement, is defined by that period of time.  Modern design with it’s more severe minimal, machine-inspired aesthetic can at times be a bit stark.  Ultra-modern or even Mid-century modern can be considered “retro” nowadays but has it’s own specific details that focuses on a more strict adherence to minimalism.  Modern style emphasizes simplicity and function over ornateness while carrying over a lot of contemporary features.  Splashes of bright color add whimsy to an otherwise neutral space while favoring uncluttered spaces and smooth, clean lines.  Artistic flair comes in the form of dramatic wall art, sculpture, stark contrasts and curved lines that are so often found in contemporary design.

Farm House Design

Farm House design is defined by practicality and comfort, relying on readily available materials and colors. Wood elements and white tones are indicative of farmhouse style. Nothing must match perfectly and the beauty is in the functionality. Knickknacks, antiques, or pairing a vintage chair with a new sofa enhances the farmhouse interior style. Rustic elegance defines farmhouse style, more grey or “greige” tones, whites and blacks with more natural accent colors found outside, such as yellow, blue, red, or green. Distressed leathers look amazing and not too fussy giving a time-worn look to furniture. Think earth tones and a warmer color palette, golds, chestnut, rust, greens. Lots of wood, rustic and weathered often line walls and flooring. Iron, steel, or galvanized metals abound with lots of suede, leather, and cotton or linen fabrics. Rooms are a mix of vintage or found items, lots of photographs, plants, and farmhouse-style motifs add color and personality to your space. Rough-hewn woods, fireplaces, a mix & match style along with a few pieces of art work well for Farmhouse interiors. Slipcovers, antique prints, botanicals, grandmother’s linens, and natural floor coverings all infuse a farmhouse feel. Furniture will have a chipped or distressed finish so it looks time-worn and lived in.

Coast to Coast Accents

Industrial

Industrial Style refers to a no-nonsense decor that takes inspiration from the lofty look of warehouses, factories, and other industrial structures.  Industrial style comprises of stripped back architectural details including the use of bare bricks, metals, and wood, as well as salvaged & recycled materials.  Furnishings are often hard wearing and comfortable with little fussy details.

Mostly neutral hues with a focus on unique textures, this style is easy to pull off with lighting, decor and furniture. Squared off and blocky lines are common but that doesn’t mean you have to avoid organic curves and abstract shapes.  Industrial design highlights exposed beams, pipes, ductwork, and lighting which most people choose to conceal – think NY city loft or repurposed warehouse apartments.

Lots of metal and wood accents like chair legs, table bases, dining tables etc are a staple of industrial design.  Masculine unfinished concrete and steel beams, chunky reclaimed woods, bold artwork and distressed leathers work well in an industrial setting alongside funky pendant lighting.  Rusted, galvanized, and corrugated metals are the bones of an industrial room.  Think vintage metal fans, animal hide rugs, mirrors trimmed in metal rivets, exposed gears, caged metal pendant lighting, tables made out of reclaimed shipping crates.
